Students participate in instructor-led discussions, business planning workshops, collaborative activities, and independent projects focused on developing their own business concepts.

Overview

Starting a business can be exciting—but it can also feel overwhelming. This pathway simplifies the process by breaking business ownership into manageable steps, helping students avoid common mistakes while building the skills needed for long-term success.

Students will learn how to:

  • Evaluate and refine a business idea 
  • Identify a target market 
  • Research customer demand 
  • Develop a professional business plan 
  • Create a startup budget 
  • Develop pricing strategies 
  • Understand business licenses, permits, and legal requirements 
  • Build a marketing and social media strategy 
  • Explore financing and funding options 
  • Manage business finances 
  • Develop customer service strategies 
  • Build confidence as an entrepreneur 
  • Use technology and AI tools to improve business efficiency and marketing 

Throughout the pathway, students work on developing their own business while receiving practical guidance they can immediately apply to their entrepreneurial goals.

This pathway is ideal for individuals who:

  • Have a business idea but don't know where to begin 
  • Want to become self-employed 
  • Are planning to start a side business 
  • Own a small business and want to improve operations 
  • Want to learn how to market products or services 
  • Are interested in becoming entrepreneurs 
  • Want practical business skills that can be applied immediately 

No previous business experience is required.

Refund Policy

Please review our refund policy before enrolling.

  • 100% refund if you withdraw before the first class meeting. 
  • 75% refund (excluding books and materials)
    • In class sessions: you must withdraw within the first four class sessions. 
    • Blended online or online class: you must withdraw by the end of the second week
  • No refunds after the fourth class session.

Prerequisites

Students entering a Business Career Pathway should have basic computer skills to ensure success. If you are new to computers or would like to strengthen your technology skills, we recommend enrolling in Keyboarding and/or Beginning Microsoft Office before starting your pathway.

These foundation courses will help you:

  • Build confidence using a computer.
  • Improve keyboarding speed and accuracy.
  • Learn essential Microsoft Office applications used in the workplace.
  • Develop the digital skills needed to succeed in your Business Pathway and today's professional work environment.

A strong technology foundation will prepare you for success in your classes and future career.

Microsoft Office Beginning

$50 (Book included in class fee) (6 Weeks Class)

This course is a basic introduction to the applications of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in a Microsoft environment. You will learn the basics of creating a Word document, an introduction to the power of Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint for creating presentations.

Keyboarding

$50 (6 weeks class)

If you want to master the keyboard, but have not done so yet, this is the course for you. Keyboarding skills are a must have for personal use and career development; or just for fun. This course focuses on helping students gain data entry skills, accuracy, speed, and correct use of keyboarding techniques.
