Our Property Management course provides students with the knowledge and training to obtain an entry-level multi housing management position. In addition, this course is designed to upgrade the knowledge and skills of anyone who owns, markets, and manages their own income producing property.
Teacher's Bio: I have been in the Apartment Management industry for more than 20 years. In 2000 I was awarded the Accredited Residential Manager Title, and in 2002 I received my Vocational Teacher Credentials, which I used to teach property management at Vista Adult School for more than 13 years. I have received a number of awards and certificates during my career, but these two are the ones that I consider my greatest accomplishments thus far.

This introductory course will prepare students to learn the principals and practices involved in manual double-entry accounting systems and important business terminology. The entire accounting cycle will be covered for a Sole Proprietorship and students will understand the foundation for ALL accounting processes to include: analyzing transactions into its debit/credit parts, journaling, posting, creating financial reports and closing a monthly cycle to prepare for the next fiscal period. Utilizing Excel for accounting will be introduced. Pre-requisite: Intermediate Level Excel.

In this class the student will gain the essential Excel skills needed for accounting and financial analysis. Each chapter applies the Excel skills being taught to a corresponding accounting principle that is covered in the Accounting 1 or Accounting 2 course. The topics progress in a logical sequence from basic to more advanced accounting principles and Excel formulas and functions, starting with the accounting equation and recording journal entries. The students will be trained on creating and analyzing Financial Statements, Inventory Costing, Calculating Payroll, and Budgeting in Excel, and the student will also learn about amortization functions and formulas.

NEW Accounting for Business – Emphasis in Accounts Payables, Accounts Receivables and Payroll for a Corporation, must be complete in Excel/Intermediate class. This course will emphasize the manual double-entry bookkeeping cycles for A/P, A/R and Payroll as well as creating an End of Year Worksheet to determine adjustments and closing entries. We will utilize Excel to complete and create spreadsheets to do analysis of the business’s progress through the accounting cycle. This is a NEW concept and will incorporate Excel as the tool as it is used in an actual business environment. (Continues in the same book as Level 1).
Pre-requisite: Intermediate Level Excel, Fundamentals of Accounting 1.

Students will learn how to apply accounting practices and business transactions using accounting software (QuickBooks Desktop) through the use of simulated businesses. Students will be trained in setting up companies, entering, modifying and correcting transactions, creating financial reports and exporting them to Excel files, making payroll and sales tax calculations and end-of-year adjustments. It is highly recommended that the student first complete Fundamentals of Accounting 1 before taking this course or have a working knowledge of accounting principles.
A laptop or PC with Microsoft Office installed locally is required (no cloud based versions of Office).
